類似《極簡宇宙史》這樣的書，要準確描述出書中內容的出處是相當困難的。我並不是書中這些理論的發現者，但我會盡我所能對這些理論作出闡釋。
本書大部分素材來源於我上史蒂芬·霍金及其他一些著名科學家的研究生課程時的教材和講義。
當然毫無疑問，書中還有一些內容來源於我曾經在劍橋大學應用數學與理論物理系(damtp)參加過的講座或討論會的資料，以及我訪問美國加州理工學院(caltech)和聖巴巴拉的kavli理論物理研究所時獲取的一些材料。以前我每年都會花上一個月的時間待在kavli理論物理研究所，和史蒂芬·霍金及他的博士生托馬斯·赫託格、傑姆斯·斯帕克、奧西恩·麥克康南姆納在一起。
